I recently purchased some Spanish 'Pirate' coins,
and one is escaping me (in identification). It is in poor condition but I am able to make out some of the lettering. It reads "PHILIP.V.D.G.HISP.(REX?)This legend is found on some 'Pieces Of Eight' (or 8 Reales) but this coin does not appear to be made from silver.
It appears to be bronze and measures 22 mm. (see photo)
Does anyone have any ideas that wold help me to identify this coin?
Regards

Thank-you so much. Everything I know about this coin points to you being right. It was sold to me as possibly being an 18th Century Marvedis.
I really do thank you.
I have some more that I am attempting to identify, so if you can keep an eye out for Spanish coin, you might be able to help me again when I get into trouble.
Regards
