I have an opened envelope1957 P.C. proof set, originally from the us mint. Does it make a value difference to take out of the Cello wrapper and put in a Capitol holder?

Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Proof coins/sets prior to 1955 were not packaged as securely and often
benefit from Capital Holders. If your 1957 is still in the cellophane
then it is probably alright. If not, then go with Capital as you'll feel better.
Simply opening the brown mailing envelope should not have an effect.

If I recall correctly the envelope for proof sets of that time were NOT sealed.
Get suspicious if one is offered with a sealed envelope.

But that doesn't answer your question.
If you don't see any unsightly toning on your set there's no reason to put into a Capitol holder.
And a set in a Capitol holder should be as valuable.

There doesn't appear, right now, to be a whole lot of retail difference between original cellophane and Capitol-style holders. It makes sense, though, to expect this to change in the long run as more and more sets are cracked, even though it's a relatively high mintage. Me, if the original cellophane is intact, that's where I'm keeping it.

I have seen a slight premium for ones in the OGP. Those premiums are more for the earlier sets so yours should not be a problem.

I was going to buy the 1955 set and the price was all over the place.
un-open box almost $200
flat-pack $110-$140
box $80-$120
Capital holder $70-$85
I did end up buying the 57 in capital holder for $23.

The presentation in the capital holder looks way better in my opinion, and if the coins are gem, I'm going after that set.
