One of the B&M shops around here has some interesting displays that has me thinking a bit. One of the displays is a wooden nameplate on a desk with all the 1909 cents, IHCs and Lincolns, mounted in it. Another is a set of Civil war storecards, one from each town in Indiana that issued them, mounted around an old map of Indiana with each town marked. Another set of storecards, an example of each of the merchants who issued them from Fort Wayne, lined up nice and neat in a frame on the wall. All the coins are in airtites and it looks like he spent some money on the framing as well and they look really nice. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of displaying things out where I can see them instead of having them stashed away. Before anyone points it out I can see the problem of having expensive coins out where just anyone could grab them but that doesn't really apply too much to my collection.

I was wondering if anyone on here does something like this or has seen something interesting they could pass on.

TSOTL, interesting question. I am a woodworker, so I've been mulling over ways to display birth year sets for my parents in a wooden case of some sort. I have a few ideas. The basic frame is simple, but when you consider the display of the coins, it gets more complicated, particularly if you want to view front and back.

I think if you have some woodworking skill, a table saw and a drill press, you can make it happen.

So much depends on where you live sometimes. By me displaying anything worth more than a dime will make it eventually vanish. And always be carefull of putting coins in anything wood. Remember if newer wood, stuff could leak out of the wood that may effect the coins.

My thoughts are to not let the coins come into direct contact with the wood, but to display them in capsules/airtites.

Thanks for the comments.

I'm looking at something like this dealer has as in keeping things in airtites and probably have them framed by a professional. I've got to get a couple more storecards and then I'll have a set completed and then I'll probably put them on a wall. I'll try to remember to post some pics when I get all this done.

As will I. However, I'm not sure how much time I'll be spending in the ol' woodshop now that summer is right around the corner. My garage is not air conditioned and it gets pretty hot here in Texas in the summer...
