Quote: Kind of shocking that stamps are #2 on the list. I agree. The stamp market has been down for few years, with stamp prices dropping below face value. At least in Korea....

I was looking at that earlier today. I could never see how stamps are more popular than coins.

I am also very shocked that stamps are that high. I don't see many stamp collectors much of anywhere, if I was to guess I would say coin collectors to stamp collectors would bring a ratio of 1:6, plus stamps are so darn fragile, a single touch with a finger could ruin them.
But overall, I would really consider coin collecting and investing number one. I mean, all coin appreciate in values while most cars don't infact, the car market went down 40.6% in the past few years.
Sure luxury cars may be worth more, but then, you'd have to have one only 100 made cars in mint-condition with 0 miles driven for it to be worth anything over what you paid. It really is a market that's out of reach for anyone but the super-rich 1%.
Besides that, something that has started to appreciate nicely over the last few years, is fine wine. Bottles of wines made in the medieval and renaissance era's are selling for record prices.

As the article stated they are talking about 'high-end investments'.
You will always have super high value cars and works of art. And some stamps are going to be as valuable as some coins.
Also, zxcccxz, can't say I've seen many bottles of wine on the market from the medival or Renaissance period! Napoleonic yes. I'm sure I've also read about Roman amphorae having survived but I wouldn't want to drink the stuff.

I have to question the veracity of the research. High-end coins don't "trend;" they don't change hands often enough. You may need to go back 5-10 years to see a prior transaction for a given issue.
I'd like to see the research involved. What sort of term is required to realize a 225% ROI for a rare coin?

, you can't record and compare record sales of different coins. each coin is different weather it be denomination, grade, year etc. And even if you have say 2 of the same year with same denom and same grade at an auction they're both going to expect at least a minor difference in price paid.

IF you actually believe such statistics, you probably think all those TV award shows are done by REAL experts too. Every day some so called EXPERTS are coming up with their statistics. Then as people slowly realize they are as accurate as Weather People on TV, all if just forgotten.

I must be missing something. By me there are coin shows, gkun shows, camera shows, computer shows, dog and cat shows. There are coin stores, hobby stores, paint stores (the artist types of paint), hobby and craft places. On TV you see coin shows. Yet just where is those STAMP places? If I wanted to buy stamps, outside of the Post Office, where would I go? More experts with their statistics. Guess they are just out of work used car salespeople.

Maybe they're referring to the price of a normal stamp. $0.49 now? Sheesh...

The best way to make money on stamps is to buy some "forever" stamps today, then sell them after several price hikes.

The fact that stamps are placed at number 2 is pretty surprising, but not because it is in the top 5. It's surprising to me because it is ahead of coins!
I know in Europe stamp collecting is far larger than in the U.S. and that is mainly in my opinion where all that value came from even though I know a lot of people here who have or do collect stamps.
