What curious features... Cud? But what is the outline to the D's south east?

a Cud involves the edge of the coin, this is a die chip, which are more common.

Thanks robbudo. Cuds are near the edge, got it.

I've almost convinced myself the coin is this...with the added dye chip: http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...1mm007ma.jpg

On the mint mark, I would have guessed split plating. But it sure does look like that picture from coppercoins. Especially that little bit north. I know split plating has confused me before. I had this one that I thought was an RPM at first.

Its a split plate alright.
Looks like the coin is about to ignite and start melting or rotting away in seconds.
The die chip could have been shards that have built up in the die itself, and eventually fall out and attach to a coin.
