So, as anyone with a safe or safe deposit box can attest to, space is always at a premium, no matter how big your safe or deposit box. Clearly the US Mint OGP takes up a lot of space relative to its contents, particularly in the case of American Eagles.
My first thought is to separate the coins from OGP (leaving the coins in the OGP capsules but separating the velvet/flocked holders and cardboard boxes). Talk about some space savings.
Is the OGP really that important? Now, I don't throw anything away typically so I guess my question is...what to do with the OGP? And what would be a good way to reunite the coin with its OGP in the event that I wanted to sell/trade?
Thanks...have some ideas but know there is lots of experience here to learn from. Comments appreciated.

Many banks in the UK have stopped providing safe deposit facilities citing the risk that people might put (or be blackmailed into putting) explosive devices in their box and detonating them later, so I'm curious to know whether banks force customers to show the contents of their boxes or if not, how they mitigate the perceived risk ?

Like anything else if you talk about it, someone will try it. Things like that are just best not discussed until someone does it. As to what do to with all the stuff coins come in from the Mint. Mytself I just throw it all away. I don't plan on ever reselling coins so the boxes, rapings, etc. are useless to me. Maybe some day in the future someone would say to bad he didn't keep them in the original containers. You could say that about all your cloths, all your kids toys, even a new car. Yes if still new, might be worth more. But then why bother with them at all.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you meant "wrappings"... At this point I plan on keeping the OGP; just looking to free some space up in the safe and make it easy to put the coin(s) and OGP back together. The COA exists in each box and each coin is dated, so I guess it wouldn't be that hard to figure things out; just a little time-consuming perhaps. I'll put them all in a box and find a shelf somewhere, and then sit back and plot how to fill up all the room I've just created in the safe. One benefit the OGP provides is keeping the coin capsules from getting scratched. So I'd have to worry about that too. Thoughts?

I had reached space capacity in safe deposit boxes and took coins from their boxes. This then resulted in lost boxes and scuffed capsules. I then acquired a home safe and again continued to house in ogh but started to reach capacity. I still would be happy to have albums that incorporated the plastic housing in the album. Still waiting for a company to make this break through.

I keep OGP materials (most are from my proof sets which were cracked to feed my Dansco albums) in a box. Not sure why I keep them, other than personal desire. I do not plan on selling anything.

Tonight I added more shelf space to my safe, so I probably will now keep the OGP and coins together for a while. The interior of the safe was set up for long guns on one side. I don't have any long guns at this time so I filled in the open space with solid shelves, and that should keep me set for a couple of years I'd hope. We'll see.

I keep my coins in a SDB and have liberated them from their OGP. What used to take up half of the box now fits in a few sandwich bags. The OGP is in a box in a forgotten corner of the house. In my case it's not hard to match up the coin to the case, I don't think that'll be a big problem. The only reason to keep the packaging is for resale value. Think about all of the coins that participate in the TPG 'first strike' slabbing and and so-on. All of that OGP is thrown away. I would actually prefer a MS69 coin in a capsule in original packaging than in a slab. I keep it around but there's no guarantee I'll still have it all if I want to sell decades from now.
