Hello every one! I am looking to these forums for expert advice. I recently got this coin. It is not one of my metal detecting finds.
This 1889 Seated Coin is throwing me off. There is no pitting, or seam, and it does not stick to a magnet. I ran it under my Minelab Etrac and it has the same reading as a 1889 Seated dime I dug last summer. I am stumped would they make a counterfeit out of silver? Or could this be post mint damage. Tried to get good pics, thanks for the help.
It looks like it is raised, but I cant feel the raise at all on the coin. Where it seems to spill over on the A it is def out of line but smooth also. The reverse looks normal and worn.
The coin has been in a corrosive environment at some point which has etched the obv, and there was something stuck to the obv that protected the central area of the coin
