I am curious, could it be that not a real 50 cent pieces were embedded, but 2 plated rounds, one without revers and the second without obverse? I'm sure some people would pay $100, some might give you $20 but the retail price was $80. Liverpool returned two at that price just 2 months ago. These clocks have been around for at least 15 years. They don't seem to be very popular except for the 2000P and only because collectors tear them apart to get the rare coin inside. If you click on the RCM collection, you can see lots of varieties and prices. Some are really cool - I like the 50 cent whales watches.
