A better 1817, 15 Star, Large Cent has been at the top of my list for some time now. The last one I picked up only showed 8 of the 15 stars. So when I saw this one at the EAC show I scooped it right up!  The dealer I purchased it from said that this was the last one left out of 3 that he had just acquired. No one truly knows why there are 15 stars but some think that it was simply a mistake. Besides the reason why it has 15 Stars, I think this is a great major variety and am liking the coin:) Please grade and tell me what you think.   |

Thanks for the replies!:) I too am at VG+.
Its crud and not vergis on the reverse. No sign of green so I think I will just leave it be.
I have a few more middle dates that picked up a the show:) I will be posting few more of them as I get picks.

Nice N16, probably die state A. I agree with your assessment that it is an interesting variety! I'd love one in this condition. If you don't mind, could you PM me what you paid?

Robbudo, the coin was marked at $60 dollars. I purchased it along others. The bargaining was cordial to the point. Price was reduced as package deal. I later returned to this dealer and purchased a couple more:D Good guy with some reasonably priced coppers. Thumbs up transaction!
Yours is almost exactly like the one I have had. These 15 Star coins are often really weak on the left side.
