Im not anywhere near a genius at coins. I'm sure this is actually a really stupid question. However I purchased this coin in a lot of them, and while looking it up, none of the results I found were this copper color. Its almost as if its a penny. Does anyone have an explanation for it?

to the CCF ... pleased that you found us and are sharing here.

You coin is likely a corroded coin dug up as a ground find ... the soil reacts with the Cu/Ni alloy and often leaves behind the color and surface pitting that you coin exhibits.

No question is stupid Lukest. Asking questions is how we learn and grow as collectors.

Not at all! It's GREAT to be curious when you're new to the hobby.

Also, to our amazing forum. You have just unleashed a treasure chest of coin knowledge to be used.

But yes, it is corroded.
