I am taking my family on a road trip from Minnesota down to Colorado! I am wondering if any of you know of any good coin shops/dealers in Colorado! I want to expand my collection if possible! :) Also, I have heard that Pilot Gas Stations have dispensers where you put in $.75, and you get a little bubble with wheat pennies, and sometimes buff nicks, silver dimes and indian head pennies? Does anyone know of these or if it is true or not?

If you make it to Colorado Springs, I recommend a stop at Hallenbeck Coin Gallery, 711 N. Nevada Ave. They have a friendly and knowledgeable staff and a wide variety of coins. They have everything from high end gold and silver pieces to bulk silver, IHC, Buffalo nickels, etc. to sort through. I stop in almost weekly to see what's new and usually sort through something.

The only one I personally know of is in ft. Collins but it doesn't sound like you are going to be up that far.

There are some pretty great shops here in Denver. Rocky Mountain Coin on Broadway near Downtown is good. More of a higher end feel to it. There are a few comic/card/coin shops in Arvada and Aurora that are worth a look (All C's in Aurora and Colorado Coins, Card, and Comics in Arvada). There is also another Rocky Mountain coin on Arapahoe and I-25 (south Denver metro) and literally across the street is another little coin shop with a pretty hilarious owner that's fun to chat with. Lastly, because I've not been there yet, is A World of Coins (southwest Denver metro). Their website feels more jewelry and bullion but hey, you never know.
Other than that, I'd say it's pretty standard fare (bullion/pawn/overpriced). Even the 'Coin' shops seem to be all about bullion over coins but, it's to be expected I suppose.
Also, have a great road trip and please post again if you run across anything awesome in Denver worth checking out!

You have the best "coin shop" in the country there. The U.S Mint. Can't visit Denver without picking up something at the Mint store. And yes, the Pilot stores do have those vending machines. Put in $.50 and get a plastic "bubble" with a common date, well worn Wheat penny, worth $.01. or put in $1 and get a worn common date (dateless) Buffalo nickel worth $.05 Can you say tourist ?

Rocky mountian coin is one of the more supplied shops around. Not the most friendly in my opinion but worth a look see. Theres another shop right next door to it too. Dave Eikenburger is the owner hes a pretty nice guy to deal with. The World of coin that Rking007 mentioned is not worth even going into its way over priced and over graded and the owner is about the biggest jerk I've met. The other Rocky Mt coin and coin store across the street are both worth it. There's an antique shop in Estes Park that has a bunch of coins and a lot of other really cool stuff. Definitely take a look in there and ask to see the coin outside (bad lighting) hes not a coin guy so many of his coins are cleaned. Boulder has Tebow coins I've never stopped in but since you are there I figured I'd mention it.

If I remember correctly, you gotta reserve your "spot" early to make certain you will get to tour the mint. I suggest calling or visiting the web site now to know times, days of the week, protocol for reservations etc. My family did it a few years back and I remember having to jump through a few hoops to get it done. Hope you have a great trip!
