@persistnt I know what you are saying, but in my eyes you are trading metal for paper, then paper for metal. The second trade just happens to be Silver. I don't consider it buying when everything I traded was free. I also know the upside of metal detecting. It's huge!! I would love to do that someday.

Do you think guns and ammo are FREE!?!?
Not to mention sugar cubes, apples, oats and hay for the horses
Then again after they catch you you'll be getting free room and board and 3 meals a day for the rest of your life
Funny little story about Frank and Jesse James, they were on the run after a bank robbery once.
They stopped at an old farm house asking for water and maybe some food. The old lady was more than happy to let them have what ever they wanted because she was going to have to move it all out. She told them that the banker was coming later that day to foreclose on her house.
The James boys asked how much she owed, a pittance to them - a kings ransom to her. They pulled the cash out of their bags and handed it to her. "How can I ever repay you?"... "no that is what we own you for lunch" not exact quotes but you get the idea.
Later that afternoon the banker was not happy leaving the old ladies house, pockets full of cash, as she ripped up the deed and bid him farewell forever. The banker was even less happy when 2 masked gunmen stopped him on the road and stole every single cent he had... including the stack of bills they had just given to the old lady
That's a great story! I love tales like this. Here's another... Charles, Pretty boy Floyd was obviously another well know bank robber, but despite his life of crime, he was viewed positively by the general public. When he robbed banks he would destroy mortgage documents, which freed many citizens of their debts. He was even protected by citizens of Oklahoma, who referred to him as "Robin Hood of the Cookson Hills". Dillinger and others of the era did similar things and never robbed the public, only the banks... Ahh... What an era to live in... And I agree that metal detecting is a great way... And IMHO the machine doesn't matter as much as where your looking.. I bought my first machine well before I started collecting coins again.... to find a pistol (which I did in all of 5 minutes, a Seecamp .32) that fell out of it's holster while hunting, just a cheepo Bounty Hunter... But I started hunting for coins with that and though I now have a better machine I've never topped my first and best find, and it was with the bounty hunter.... Not silver but an 1820 small date large cent in AU... Possibly MS, preserved beautifully in he western mass soil .

So I'm a huge believer in investing in silver and have been thinking on this topic for the last few months. Here are my two ways thus far. If you have any more suggestions keep them coming. The bank I just got a checking account has a perk. If you make at least 10 debit transactions in one month. Then you get 10 dollars a month in Amazon purchase reimbursement. They expire in 2 months. So I will only be able to use 20 dollars at a time. But that will allow me to purchase 4 silver quarters(Shipping included) for right at 20 bucks. So in a year I should be able to get 24 silver quarters for Free. Not much but its FREE. The other method I have is my company matches 15% of stock I purchase from the company. So for every 100 dollars of stock I buy. I receive 15 dollars of stock in the company. Depending on how I play my sale dates I should be able to make about 240 to 280 a year on that. Good enough for about another 10 oz of silver. Once again. FREE.

Morgand33, Way to resurrect this topic! I need to find a bank that does that. Thanks for the idea. I don't remember if I've said this. But I buy certain items on clearance throughout the year and sell them for a profit. Then I take the profit and buy silver.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea to. I also forgot to add on here. Since this is a coin roll forum. Any non silver key dates or DDO or varieties. I either trade for silver or sell then buy silver. To me their is just to much risk of the above coins to loose their collector value. When I know PM's will always hold value.

You guys are just finding ways to save money and putting the savings towards buying coins. This is dumb. This is like "hey if I pay cash for gas instead of using my card I can save 5 cents a gallon and $20 a month and then I can buy 4 silver quarters". You saved $20 and put it towards coins..... That's it.
EDIT: Granted you are investing the money, in a sense, but this is essentially just maximizing your exependable income and using it on silver coins.

Quote: This is dumb. illz, I guess everybody is entitled to there own opinion, but I don't know how many friends you are going to make by saying that. Santafeboy, Great job! I know a lot of people might look down on dumpster diving. I don't think anyone is looking down on you for purchasing those Carson City's with dumpster diving money!! That is awesome!!
