For those of you who collect nickels through roll hunting or otherwise, which nickels or groups of nickels do you keep? I'll lead off. Currently we keep: All silver nickels All Buffalo nickelsAll Liberty nickels (yes, all four) All Jefferson nickels with a mintage under 15 million

A lot of folks will says pre-1960. Keep what you like. I think you've got the basics down as far as I'm concerned. This would mean you would pull a lot more than just the 15 million Jeffs, but like I said. Keep what you like. Luckily you can keep 20 for a dollar so you won't be going broke by saving a bunch.

I'm in the pre-60 group but also I have about 3 full sets, being '20 for a dollar' it's easy to keep them and not strain your wallet.
I just found a bunch that might have been someone else's collection, a whole bunch that were from the 70's-90's in AU or better condition, so I swapped out and upgraded a bit of each set.

3 full sets ASLAN?! Dang. I'm still working on finishing my first one up. THEN start thinking about upgrading. Congrats and I'll try to catch up!

Well I meant full-ish missing the 1950-d, 38-39 with mint marks (I did just get a 1939-s but only one and only one 1950 so far) 3 full sets of War Nickels, and I'm planning on only buying more of them if they are in EF-AU or better, just found a 1945-s in fairly good shape too

I keep pre-60 except for '58-D plus all foreigns and post-60 in BU. I probably need to go back and downsize my collection (at least the 80s/90s in AU) but that will be a task for some other time. Currently I'm only missing '39-D and a couple War Nickels from my 1938-1959 set, and I'm still missing some of the 70s in BU for my 1960-2014 set... '71-77 are a lot harder to find than I would have guessed.

I don't really like the pre-60 keeping strategy. 58D & 59D are too high of mintages. I go based on mintages. I keep 58,59,60,61,62 P and 68D , and pre-58

everything pre 1960. everything foreign. everything that I feel might be an upgrade to my collection. When I accumulate 20 rolls of pre 60's, I sell them off at a small profit. I don't hoard them, but I will keep them and profit from them when I can. It's how I'm able to pay for my collecting habit. I won't sell a silver nickel for $1 on ebay with free shipping.... but I will sell 20 of them for $20 with free shipping.

I keep em all! Yes, I know they arent making me money, but they will always have a 5 cent value. I hopefully await for a composition change and removal of 1 cent coins. We cannot keep this silliness up. How do I sort mine out? Like this; 2009 and War Nickels go into the plastic holder tubes. Buffaloes and older go into a little plastic bin. The pre 1960 go into a larger bin. The rest go into a 5 gallon bucket.
