I bought a $2 purple coin roll on ebay but I'm worried now that they're not all the same. Should I open the roll , or are coins more sort after in rolls? , thanks.

W#hat were you searching for when you bought it? All the same? Purple? Resale? They're probably 40 or so makers of wrappers. That's a guess. I know of no gaurantess, unless from the mint, & that's a guess also. Happy huntin.

The contents of a roll is not guaranteed. However I would guess that if the roll came with a bunch of other rolls that all had new purple commemorative coins on the ends, then there is a good chance the coins inside are all purple commemorative coins. The problem then is that if you only have one roll, you lose the info about the rest of the rolls. Personally, I would collect rolls from the mint, but not rolls from security companies. For Fioti: OP is talking about this http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/pres...20130621.cfmThe purple is printed onto the coin.

Yeah, extreme buyer beware with coin rolls esp. off ebay.I'm not sure with Security Co.'s protocols with Coin Rolling machines but I purchased a roll of Norfolk Island 20c a few years ago,i carefully opened it up and whilst there was a NI 20c at each end the rest of the roll was a mixed bag so obviously the hopper had a variety of 20c coins in it when rolled.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll open it tonight and find out.
I looked back at the listing and it doesn't actually say 25 coloured coins. Hopefully I haven't wasted my money.

How much did you pay ? imo the buy it now price on ebay is just ridiculous & it really leaves no room for buyers to get back their outlay let alone make a profit.

Well, I had nothing to worry about. They were all the same coloured $2 coins. I'm very relieved.

Thanks for the numbers Shane / Ms Smith lol. 995,000 of them! I have not come across one in change but a friend did and I exchanged a normal $2 for it. Now I have all three $2 commemoratives, the red poppy, the unpainted poppy and this purple coronation one.
With that mintage, I'd expect to see more in change.

MobOfRoos, I wonder if the mint thought if they mint enough of them, as in one or two million, you would think that a certain number would be hoarded but leaving many spare to circulate. Not that I pretend to know their thinking. However, any issue that gets hoarded makes them less special from a collectors point of view because every man and his dog has some in the back of the draw, and available on ebay in perpetuity. Maybe the RAM could take a leaf out of the Willie Wonka and the Chocolate factory movie where WW made just 10 gold wrappers which were keenly sought after. Let's say the RAM mints 1000 only special coins wholely placed in circulation. Such rare pieces would be keenly sought by both collectors and non-collectors.
