My first question is, what was your favorite set to assemble (date + mintmark, maybe with varieties). Feel free to post a picture of the set.

My second question: what do you think is the least pricy (or not relatively pricy) date and mintmark set to put together of a classic coin, that is still very beautiful?
Classic coins being
-Cents: Indian and earlier
-Nickels: Buffalo and earlier
-Dimes: Mercury and earlier
-Quarters: SLQ and earlier
-Halves: WLH and earlier (Pretty sure Franklins are classic, but I don't like 'em.)
-Dollars: Peace and earlier

Second question: Of those choices, with price in mind, I would lean to a 1941-47 Walking liberty short set or a Peace dollar set in choice AU-BU. They are great looking coins and have silver!

Second question
Braided hair large cents 1840 - 57

First question Seated Liberty half dimes. I have some other sets I liked better but they are earlier and are all Philadelphia coins not date and mint (they didn't HAVE other mints at the time.)

I concur with Conder on the second question, the braided hair large cents can be completed in relatively high grade for relatively low prices. For that matter, braided hair Half Cents could also be an option.

For the first question, I haven't finished a complete date AND mm set yet (I finished a Morgan dollar date set), but I am currently working on Liberty Seated half dimes, and it continues to be enjoyable. I love the liberty seated series, and Half Dimes are the only set of those that are within my ability to complete.

OFF TOPIC QUESTION FOR CONDOR:
With regard to Braided Hair large cents why do you say 1840-1857?
The Red Book includes one variety of 1839 with that set.
But Grellman's book agrees with your dates.
I asked Chris McCawley about this since he appears to be associated with Grellman but got no definitive answer.

Anyway I collect that set and DID include the 1839 variety.
I generally go with the Red Book at least when I first start an series.

Conder is by far the expert so I don't mean to answer the question directed to him but just want to add some background.

The Wright book stops the series at 1839. The Grellman book begins the new series at 1840. In 1839 there were five different types and various names for each type. The Wright book uses these names -
Over 1836
Type 1838
Silly Head
Booby Head
Petite Head

The Petite Head of 1839 is identical to the 1840.
