Help appreciated so I can stop lookn at this one and toss it or do some further research-don't think it matches the first of the DDO's on coppercoins-but also please note above the L in liberty, think I'm seeing an L or P there? Probably not tho-and to the left of the L is that PMD? Thanks!

Hi Slamn - as John notes a deteriorating die and coin. You'll see many times that the copper plating begins it fail around the edges of devices and when the zinc 'rots' causing funny things to happen. Add in die wear or an aggressive redressing of the die face more can happen to fool the eye. I'm always double taking on 'halos' about devices. Just happens. With time and guidance though I've reduced misreads - but haven't eliminated them all just yet.
