First, on a different topic, some of you in this forum helped me substantially with some corrosion issues/cleaning. Thank you, thank you. I assumed this set was probably uncirculated/BU. Now I'm thinking someone (late 70's) may have put a proof set in this Whitman holder. A few questions; Did putting this in a "modern" holder affect value? Are there any coins in the set that merit attention? I'm familiar with the "steps" on the Jefferson nickel. Is this only a consideration for circulated nickels? If this is a proof set, I assume that "steps" are not an issue. The ones on this nickel are extremely well defined. Thanks as always for your input. Still operating with sub-standard photographic equipment!

Awesome set! That's the type of holder I would have out it in myself so it doesn't bother me at all. Again, great set!

No, it did not reduce its value significantly. Personally, I like to get my sets in the OGP and break them out personally if need be. And I am willing to pay a bit more for that. But not a lot. That is still a 250.00 or so set regardless of what it is in.
You are correct on the steps. Given that these are proof coins, every last one should have full clear steps. If not, its a crappy proof.

The only major variety of note would be the Washington quarter "Superbird", so named because of a small S-shaped mark on the eagle's breast. It's popularity is aided by a listing in the Cherrypicker's Guide, FS-25-1952-901. In regards to the steps, proof coins are assumed to have full details so strike descriptors are not used as on business strike coins.

Yep, that's a good-looking set for sure. Of course the coin rotation drives me nuts but hey... I'm only human.

@Biokemist6. Great heads up on the Washington quarter. That information is exactly why I'm so stoked to have joined this forum. Unfortunately, no S on the breast of the eagle, but I was like a kid at Christmas thinking about pulling out the set as soon as I could. Got to it this evening. Thanks again everyone for the input and comments.
