So I found this '97 today, and I can't help but think it looks like a matte proof from the Botanic Gardens SMS. I keep telling myself it's not, but then I pick it up and look at it again... And I think, "well, maybe." What do you guys think? I took a few pictures of the fields just to show the grain. And those steps are awesome, right?
It appears to be a normal coin from what I can see. The obverse die is not as fresh as the reverse die is. May have been a replacement for the reverse die? Looks like your are using a ring light for your images. This gives a different look to the coin. A ring light floods the coin with light. A single light source creates light and shadow.
