Yesterday I pulled an 1890 and a 1901 Hong Kong 5 cent coin out of my local dealers bulk box (paid $.18 each). The coins are in great shape with the only damage apparent being a couple rough parts on the edge of the coin. Does anyone know anything about these coins? Are they valuable?

Krause lists both of those as:
1,3577 gram, 0.8000 Silver, 0.0349 oz ASW
and $1.25-1.5 in Fine condition

They were silver until 1935 when they changed to a Copper-Nickel content.

In the US, nickels were minted out of 35% silver, 56% copper and 9% manganese from 1942 to 1945.

Thanks! I was pretty happy about these- but even happier about the 29 1/4 Gulden coins from 1941-1944 that I pulled out of the same box (also for $.18 each).
