This is one of those where the pictures don't do the coin justice. It looks like Abe's left shoulder is running through the left side of the memorial.

There is a bit of controversy with this one. Some say it's a die clash and others say it's not. I think it is a die clash and very common.Early on in my collecting I started to keep these in different stages as to how bold the clash was.Over the years I had about 12 or so and then a few years ago I set them free.

Mike Diamond did an article on these not too long ago. He concludes that these are not die clashes, but rather an anomaly of the die quality.

I found this article interesting because for a long time these were dismissed as die clashes by many people, and this didn't seem right to me. I am more content in the theory that Mike has produced.

Wow! Just when you think you have a handle on identifying coins a whole new world opens up. That is an interesting article. Thanks for sharing!

So I am wondering if these have a premium and if so how much?

There are a couple on ebay right now described as die clashes but I don't see any with bids or that have already sold. Frankly, they're so minor and common that I don't see these being sold at a premium to any knowledgeable collector.

That's what I was thinking but if Mike Diamond says it's not a die clash but something more/better maybe we should be keeping them.

This example, and other cents like it, resemble the 1943 S goiter quarter which has recently brought a very large premium (depending on condition). These however, are much larger, more dramatic, and more interesting. Minor die clash or minor die subsidence, I don't believe either will add value to these coins.
