I've been looking for a good looking, affordable coin for a while now and stumbled across this one at an antique shop. While it's not entirely problem-free I think it's a lovely coin for my money. There's a layer of clear enamel on the obverse, which seems to have been applied while the coin was still circulating, as it's worn off on the more worn patches. I'd guess it's Fine details? Snagged it for a grand total of $15.52 after sales tax! Edit: So when I freed this from the 2x2, I decided to see if I could get the enamel off before it went in my 7070. I didn't even submerge it in acetone, just a couple drops on the coin and a careful toothpick and rinse later, and the obverse almost looks like a different coin. The enamel-free 1858 LL Flying Eagle, ready for my 7070! Edited by Dasaki 05/28/2014 03:15 am

What's the "problem" with the coin? Looks problem free to me? I would say F-12.

Love flying eagles! One of my favorite coins! I'm jealous :) Beautiful pickup. Also the obverse isn't terrible, how much did you pay for it? The reverse is in beautiful condition.

I think that fine is correct on the grade. I'll guess that you paid $10.

About the middle of the guesses, the coin was marked $14.50, total of $15.52 after tax. Which I feel is pretty good for the coin!

There seems to be a few tiny verdigris spots in 'AMERICA'. Perhaps this is the problem.

Nice and a good price. I think I liked it better before the acetone though,IMHO. John1

Great coin and decent price. I am confused. By me there is no sales tax on coins. Guess that is different in places. Still not a bad price at all.
