Hello all,
I'm on the hunt for a coin, but keep winding up at dead ends... I'm looking for a coin from Sicily, Akragas. It's a silver coin featuring an eagle & hare on one side, and a crab with a sea beast called Ketos below... Can anybody point me toward a dealer who has one, or does anybody here have one they'd like to sell or trade?

They're out there; there is at least one coming up for auction within the next few days.

They are very expensive. I assume you are referring to the hemidrachm. The tetradrachm with similar iconography will cost you as much as a house...

Note: you may be bidding against me for those hemidrachms

Try searching an auction aggregator such as Numisbids.com or Sixbid.com.

There are also bronze versions which are far more affordable.

It's nice, Pish. I'm fond of the type. But yours does not have the sea monster that the OP seeks :)

that's a very nice coin, close to what I'm looking for! I'm going to give those sites a shot, ThisIsFun, thanks for the leads!! I've never used sites like those before, are they the sites that will show me if one of those coins will be going up for auction within the next few days, or do you know of an auction that will be starting soon featuring this type of coin? Thanks again for the info!!

Not helpful, but they might load the price at some time.

That's the one I was hinting at. Opening bid $1750.

xxmark-- you can set up watch a watch list on Numisbids and they will email you when a coin matching your criteria comes on the market.

You can also do this with CNG, although CNG's auctions are included in the Numisbids aggregation.

Excellent, thanks again TIF and Pish, noemi gonna be haunting that numisbids site... Fear not, that one starting at 1,750 is a bit out of my price range. One ended on yesterday's CNG auction for $525. I put in a bid but lost at the end. Back to the ole drawin' board!!

I strongly considered bidding on yesterday's Akragas but am trying to be good and save money for a coin show this summer. I am not bidding on the Goldberg coin.

It's going to be fun watching that Goldberg auction though. Wanna place bets about the hammer for the EID MAR? I think it's going to hit a million. The stated estimate is $250K, which is obviously low.
