Does this 1945 Dollar look Counterfeit to you? The font seems to be a bit off, and the 45 in 1945 seems rather strange. Also, what do you think the grade is?

It's unlikely someone would counterfeit a coin to be in VG-VF condition.....does it pass the Ag test? Try weighing it on a digital scale to ensure it's close to 23.33 grams

I don't think this is counterfeit but lower grade counterfeits are fairly common for key and semi key dates. Not long ago someone brought some relatively valuable Carson City Morgan dollars into the store that booked "F" for around $500.00. Non Magnetic and the weight was under by only 1/2 gram. BTW, they were bought in the Kingston, Ontario area at a flea market.

The belief that only better grades/dates will/are being counterfeited is flawed from the get go. Any date of any denomination can be counterfeited. The best counterfeits whether contemporary or modern are the ones which draw the least attention. Comments that mislead about what grade is "likely" to be counterfeited are of no service to anyone and are BLATANTLY WRONG. The potential for all coins and grades to be counterfeited is nothing but FACT. It has been proven time and time again. As for the coin here, the image is too poor to establish if it is indeed a counterfeit. This date of silver dollar was counterfeited in the late 60's and again in modern times. Testing for silver will show if it is one of the counterfeits made with some thing else but will not eliminate the silver versions.
