My bank with the coin counting machines knows I dump my nickels there. I was talking with the teller the other day and she said they have a customer who dumps large amounts of coins. What he now does is get a supply of the bags used in the coin machine, places his sorted coins by denomination in each in a separate bag. The bank sends them off with their coins and then deposits the amount into his account. They don't care how many bags he sends off to be counted as long as they are sorted.

I member in '64, my father would take individual, by denomination canvas bags to the bank in K.C. There, they were weighed & deposited. This was extended to frequent "dumpers", if that is what they were even called. I really dont know when counting machines became popular.

The problem I have seen with this method in my area is that they don't credit the account until after the amount of coins have been verified off-site, tying up your cash until the verification is complete.

I worked at a credit union where we used a coin machine. When the bags were full, we sent them off and they were weighed then credited. I'm sure this would be easy to do for a customer as long as you worked it out with the bank before. Saves the tellers a lot of work since you are not having do go through the machine.
I always was curious about how they knew how to weigh the pennies with some being copper and some being Zincolns.

Don't hate me, but here's the method I've used the last five years. I re roll (I can search a customer roll of dimes and re roll it it less than 15 seconds), I dump say $500 worth of rolls over the teller counter, and get my cash immediately. The tellers later unwrap the rolls and they are sent out with the courier. I never count coins, only rolls. Never have had a problem.

i only do halves, so I wont give to bank in bags to deposit because I feel it will look like an income on bank statement, had this issue when I was purchasing my home, loan company couldnt understand all the money movement in my checking account, well we made it through the loan process, now I reroll and get cash and use cash to buy boxes, no more deposits and withdrawals, I use multiple banks to drop I spread it out..just works for me
