I liked the detail left on this coin. Can not tell much by the pics about the color of the coin. Nice closeup of obverse. Not so close on reverse but coin does appear to have at least VF details if not XF. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1839-Large-...047675.l2557

Also keep in mind that there is environmental damage to the obverse and there are scratches on liberty's face. I say that it is VF-30 details.

I did see the scratches and the surfaces did not look pristine but that coin in perfect shape with those details would have cost 4 times as much as this one. Here is a pic of a VF35 coin recently sold. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1839-Matron...047675.l2557

Someone way overpaid for that coin.
Mid VF Details/corroded.

Realistically, about a $15 coin.

well that someone was me I am afraid. Have not seen any coin of that year sell for 15 bucks with that amount of details left. I did not think the coin looked that bad. Not the nice lighter brown that everyone looks for but not greenish colored or heavily pitted either. Maybe I will keep it or sell it to one of my local shops. As for overpaying I think this next coin is a prime example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1839-SILLY-...em35d301660b

I would say VF-30 or 35 for this. Around $20 value. It sold for $36 which was excessive.

Jerry, nice coin!
I too think you got a good deal for this variety. Even as a details coin you did not overpay IMO. I have been looking for an affordable one in the VF and above range. I have not found one yet.
VF details with eye appeal at least Net Fine from what I can see in the pics!

Jerry, I think the coin is a really nice one. You only overpaid if you're not satisfied with the condition. I, for one, always evaluate the coin and only pay what I'm personally comfortable with. If you're satisfied with the purchase that's all that matters.

I'm sure she'll look great in your collection. I agree with the VF35 rating. I think she looks great!
