I have made some pretty good friends at the bank, but this teller surprised me. She told me a business customer had deposited a hundred dollars worth of halves, and asked if I wanted them. Of course, I took 'em! I've been hooked on nickels for awhile, but I figured... Why not? Well, I found some good stuff! Three 40-percenters, a Bicentennial proof, and what looks like a gold plated 2008! But I'm a little confused about the Bicentennial... does it have any silver?

I don't think Bicentennial has any silver. In fact it's a very common coin. They made millions of them. But if it's in proof condition you still can get a little premium for the coin. Still a great find, it's nice to have a friend at the bank :)

If it's minted from San Fran, it's 40% silver I believe.

Mine is S. It is a proof, as evidenced by the mirror shine and frosted cameo. Just not sure if they made a clad proof and a silver proof that year.

It's pretty scratched up, but it's a proof right?

Nice finds. The bicentennial edge appears to be a common clad.

Nice finds!

I agree, the edge looks like CuNi clad.

You can always try the tissue test to confirm.

Great finds. It does pay off to have friends at the bank. I have several that save any odd coins or notes that come in.
