The 250 will work just fine, after you swing a lot with it

I'm in the third year of using my Ace 250 and have found it to be a very good detector. I've been able to locate coins down to eight inches.

You have to learn to read the chime tones and readouts on the screen, especially for aluminum cans and pull tabs that can read like pennies or dimes.

I've also learned to tell myself, "Nickels always stay nickel" on the screen. Anything that is aluminum will show a slight change when you put the machine in pinpoint mode.

I've found 20 silver coins (an 1899 Barber quarter being the oldest) and about fifteen rings. One was a silver and 10K gold class ring from 1939.

The hobby has me completely hooked!

Very Cool!

I have a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II that I got from my father when he passed about 5 years ago or so now.

I haven't been able to try it yet. But I'm sitting here looking at it every day waiting to get the chance.

I can go East or West for about 45 minutes and hit a beach but I would like to check out around some old fish camps around the lakes when I get the chance.
Just got to keep an eye out for gators and snakes this time of year.
Have Fun!

John, 350 is about $90 more.

Frodo, The biggest difference between the 2 is the DD coil on the 350. Better target separation, and it should work a little better on the coins, silver, and jewelry separating them.

you opinion please

should I go with the 250 and the viper coil

or just the 350?

by adding the viper to the 250, am I basically turning it into the 350?

Can you just get one and then interchange the coils then? If you already have the base unit that is?

Garretts are considered the "chevys" of detectors, good starting units I suppose, until you get real serious.

Been in the hobby since '77, and I've hit the beaches maybe once or twice. I like the locations that will give up old coins and artifacts. If you want the truth, get permission to hunt the front yards of the oldest homes in your area. Old yards are the final frontier; many are virgin and can give up finds hundreds of years old.

Frodo, you mean the sniper coil? The 350 uses a DD coil, so in oreder to make them as comparable as possible you would need a DD for the 250. In that case you may as well buy the 350 for the DD.
