So my bank has a free coin counter, but I can't help think that it's not accurate. Especially when dumping thousands of coins at a time. I waited until it stopped completely, and dumped 2 half dollars in, and it only registered 0.50 cents, instead of a dollar. I proceeded to turn in my 200 kennedys by hand at the teller because I don't trust it for half dollars now. I'm curious about the nickels. I'll have to keep better track of how many I take out of the 2,000, then see what the slip says when I count. I will report back my findings in a couple days.

Try doing a small amount that is counted out to the penny, the year you were born maybe.

When I was doing Silver Dime Appreciation Month a few Novembers ago. I realized that the coin counter was counting some of my dimes as pennies!! I printed out the receipt and sure enough there were 280 some pennies counted. The problem was I didn't have any pennies in the bag. So I showed the bank teller and they refunded my money to my account. Needless to say that was the end of click clacking dimes for me. So yes it happens.

If I'm dumping a load of cents I usually throw in some nickles, dimes and quarters to make sure they are counted. I usually have a rough idea how much I should be getting back.

I have used the machines for a few months and found they are not accurate.
I buy bags from another branch of the same bank and roll them and it always comes out correct.
But the branch I buy from does not get as much coin business. The branch I was using to dump does about $10K+ in coins a week.
Rolling is better and more accurate to me. Takes about the same amount of time if the machine is getting jammed alot.

Do any of you suggest a coin counter or sorter? Or do you roll em all by hand ? Maybe i'll do that. Buy a bunch of sleeves in bulk.

What I do is re-use the empty roll, as I go through the coins, I stack in tens, and then refill the roll. I bundle the rolls in groups of 10 with elastic bands, and then take them back to the bank.
This makes it easier for the teller, and a faster transaction.
I thought about buying a counter, but the costs of $100 or more really does not make sense. The El-Cheepo counters will most likely not stand up to the amount of coins a CRHer would put through it, so they are not the way to go either.

I have a coin sorter that is also a coin counter, got from a guy on Craigslist for $20 (he jammed a looney and a Susan B in the machine). Took it apart and it works great.
I get wrappers at the banks and have purchased some online in bulk about $3.50 per thousand rolls.
Now when I dump $3K at a bank there all rolled and all they do is count the rolls usually give me the boxes back and more wrappers.
Total time is about 15 minutes at the bank. It takes around 2 hours to reroll $3K if they are from bags. Otherwise I reroll as I am seaching.
I spent over 1 hours dumping $1K of quarters at a bank coin counter and then it came up as $998.50.
Where did the $1.50 go?

I know I roll my hand. It may take away, but at least you know it's accurate.
