So I recently traded a good friend of mine for a nice draped bust Half Cent. I already have a nice example in my 7070, but I also really like the new one for very different reasons. Each example favored poorly in TPG encapsulation for different reasons. This is a tough decision, and I am 50/50 as to which one will remain in my type set. Which of these 2 coins would you prefer in your 7070 and why. The first one is the example I traded my friend for. It is evenly struck, and has some nice underlying red highlights around the devices....with just a slight hint of luster: This second one I already had in my 7070. It is very unevenly struck, but the well struck areas give off stronger details than the one above. There are no red highlights, but this coin exhibits tons of luster in the fields and on the devices.

I have to lean towards the first one. The original requires somewhat an expert to appreciate how its' issues create a desirable coin, but the new one is just in your face.

I'd go with the first one. Way more eye appeal them the 1807. Love the even strike and the hints of red around the devices.

The first one looks much nicer. I vote for the 1804!

Another vote for the 1804. I like the more even strike and the fact that there is still some mint red luster showing after 210 years.

I like the 1804 better, but when I was looking for a nice mint state Half Cent I was surprised to learn that the 1804 issue was one of the highest mintages in the whole series (1794 - 1856) with over a million coins minted that year. Only 8 million Half Cents were minted between 1794 - 1856, so a montage of 1 million in 1804 is substantial.

I like the 1807, I prefer the cool toning over the warm toning.

Don't think the luster is orginal on the 1804, prob an old cleaning. So if that bothers you, that could be a factor in your decision. Otherwise very nice detail.

I agree with SsuperDdave. The first has more eye-appeal to the average collector. Both coins are amazing and I'd be proud to own either one. I suggest starting a 2nd 7070!

The first one gets my vote- beautiful coin! Both are really nice, though.

I vote 1804 because, even though it has less mint luster than the 1807, it just plain looks nicer. That is, if I'm not mistaken, the point of a type set.
