I recently purchased this 1925-D Buffalo nickel for my Dansco set. The price seemed too good to be true after shopping around for this particular coin. Most in comparable conditions had BIN prices that were WAY more than this one. I emailed the seller and asked him if this was the actual coin being offered. He said that it was the exact coin. I know very well that this could be a case of enhanced photography, but there were several positives left for this seller in which the buyers stated that the coins they received were exactly as pictured. That made me feel better about it. So I thought it was worth the risk. What do you guys/gals think? I'll post my own photographs once I receive the coin. It's on its way now. I'm hopeful and excited. http://www.ebay.com/itm/31097813023....m1497.l2649

To me, it looks like an honest F-15. No complaints about the photography. Too bad about the scratch across the buffalo's face.
I think you got a fair deal.

Yeah, F15 seems right.
Appears original.

I wish the scratch wasn't there, but I can live with it considering how bold the date appears. For me, collecting Buffalo nickels is a unique joy all its own. They are a challenge because I want every date/mm to be as clear as this one or at least close to it. There a select few that I probably can't afford to get in this condition, but I'll just keep hunting until I find acceptable specimens.

Are you collecting major varieties as well, like the 3 leggeds and doubled dies?

I think that was a decent buy, worn evenly better than some others that are for sale.
I had a complete set with the 37D 3 leg in vf/xf and thanks to divorce I had to sell most of my collection to pay her off. No 17/18
I bought the 3 leg from Superior Coin and my 31s cent in AU for like $60 for both back in the 1950`s

I forgot about the 17/18. I might be able/willing to acquire that one too. I will not buy either raw/uncertified. So the Dansco will always have those two empty holes, but I'm ok with that. Sorry to hear that you had to sell your collection. I know that had to sting.

I think you did well. It's tough to find one of these with a full date and a horn that is approaching "full". I think there's a good chance a TPG might relax the standards just enough to call it VF.
