New to all this, but found in some pocket change and thought it looked really weird. Like one side was melted. Is it a Die cap strike error? And is it worth anything? I couldn't get a good picture of the date or mint make it looks like 199? D.

Looks like a nice struck through mid-stage die cap. Dimes are worth a little bit more than cents or nickels. I could see $25+ for this lightly circulated example - a great find for pocket change!

It is a struck through capped die dime. Nice find. An interesting thing about these is that the rim edge (where the outside edge of the die) is not sharp like a normal struck dime. The capped die is prevented from making this edge sharp because of the planchet covering the die. When they come off they something look like a saucer.

Other times they are removed. Other times they are continued to allow it to thin and fall off the die affect coins for a longer time.
