Dear members,

Ive got this gold ducat Michael Steno in my collection. I am wondering if this is a varity coin or just the Standard Gold ducat of Michael Steno.

There is some double striking to see on the coin.

With coins like this that were made the old-fashioned way, hand-struck using hand-carved dies, the things that collectors of moderns consider as "varieties" - letters and figures in slightly different places, that sort of thing - and things they consider "errors", such as minor doubling, are of less importance. You've really got to have something spectacularly wrong, like a mis-spelling or 90 degree rotation between the double-strikes to get something considered an error or variety worth mentioning and I'm not really seeing anything out of the ordinary in these pictures.

I am seeing a dint at the base which may indicate this coin once had a mount or loop attached there - a common fate for these coins; since they have a picture of Christ on the other side, they made a cheap and convenient religious amulet.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Dear Sap thank you for your reaction. I forgot the post the reverse. Here you don't see a little crack.
Indeed if you look at similair pieces. They all look some different in the standing persons. One more detailled then the other.

Regards,
vincent
