So I got a bag of coins and I am stumped on these 7. I do know the small silvery one is thai, but I dont know the year so I included it. Also, I included the half won because it seems it is supposed to be silver yet this coin is not. It doesn't have the look of being fake and I know the japanese produced some coins for korea at this time as "counterfeits" that were actually used and accepted. The rest I have NO IDEA!

The knife-blade is a piece of a copy of a Wang Mang knife coin.
Top left and bottom left coins: I think they're early Islamic Indian, but a quick scan of my Indian catalogue came up empty.
Top centre: not sure.
Bottom centre: Thailand 5 satang. Unfortunately, the pic is too low-resolution to read the date. It's in the bottom picture, just below the centre hole.
Top right: Bhutan, copper 1/2 rupee or deb, 1800s.
Bottom right: do you have a weight for it?

Yes, we need the weight for the Half Won.

The Thai coin is dated 2484 in the local calendar (= AD 1941). The Krause catalogue lists it as silver.

Quote: Ok so the "knife" coin is PART of a COPY? strange- Yes, an authentic coin should look like this. Quote: For the half won, I think it should weigh over 10 grams- and if I remember right it is 8.59? Going from memory here as I dont have a scale. Your coin is dated 1908. An authentic coin of this date should weigh exactly 10 grams. Gary

Thanks gary- I knew the date and had already deduced it wasnt exactly genuine- because a genuine piece is silver and mine does not appear to be. I mentioned how I know the japanese were counterfeiting coins that were accepted commonly at this time while recognized as counterfeits. I also read something about silver purity dropping at some point?

Quote: I also read something about silver purity dropping at some point? All official half won coins were struck at the mint in Okaka, Japan. The purity was the same for all these coins: 80% silver, 20% copper. The only difference is that the 1905 and 1906 coins have a diameter of 31 mm and weigh 13.5 grams. The 1907 and 1908 coins are slightly smaller with a diameter of 27.5 mm and a weight of 10 grams. Gary
