Hey guys My names Ralph. I'm not that avid of a coin collector but I keep my eyes out for silver quarters etc. I Found this coin a few days ago while walking dog. I live in Saint Augustine and found it about 6 miles from coast. I think its a hoax but it looks pretty old. Before reading several forums I used a scrubby with bleach to clean it. (I know) I'm prolly not even in the right forum but if someone knows what this is or can direct me to a website that will help me id it I sure would love the help. It looked very dirty when I first got it. I figured brass or copper but it could be silver as well. It could also not even be a coin as well. It does looked "stamped." Thanks! Ralph J

Hello and welcome.

It is, as you have partially guessed, a replica. Specifically, a replica of a "pirate coin" of some kind, a silver piece-of-eight or a gold doubloon. I think it's closer to the design of gold coins, though it's been copied so crudely it's hard to be certain what the original coin was.

This particular replica has been seen on the forum before; the roughly triangular shape and the "owl-eyes" are very distinctive. Here's a thread with another one.
