Hi,
I submitted a silver coin that had developed unattractive spots several years after I purchased it. I submitted it for a review through PCGS at the Long Beach show. This is the first time I have done this. I asked for an estimated turn around time and the answer was "It will be according to David's schedule.". That's fine. Any experience on turnaround time?

Thank You.

What exactly is PCGS doing (e.g., re-slab, cleaning, examining for reconditioning)?

It is my understanding that they may attempt to clean the coin and re-slab it, or provide a refund based on diminished value. I'm new to this, but this is my understanding.

Thank You.

Sounds like a presidential review without a set timeframe. I'd expect to wait 60 days but have heard of cases where they took 3-4 months.

Good to see you posting at CCF jimbucks.

In my experience, they're just going to dip the coin in their acetone solution, just like NGC and Heritage does.

I've heard it taking longer than 6 months for presidential reviews.

When PCGS does the Acetone bath, do they rinse the coins with distilled/de-mineralized water?

Can't imagine why they would. Acetone evaporates completely without leaving a trace, and distilled water stands a better chance of leaving residue than acetone. You don't rinse acetone.

I had a Morgan that developed a haze over it and I sent it in and THEY cleaned it and reslab it.
I always thought that they did not slab cleaned coins!
Don't remember how long it took, submitted it at the Long Beach shows 9 or 10 years ago. I think I still have the coin today in my SDB.

RJP, there is a difference between cleaning and conserving.
