Talk about an unfortunate strikethrough.

All I can say is that Trust and Politicians don't go together anyway.

I'm not sure these are struck through. I believe they could be either weak hubbings, overpolishing, or a combination of the two. I haven't seen many like these, so they are rather uncommon - having been through over a million cents myself in a lifetime, I think I qualify not only for a nutcase award but to be able to tell people what's common and what's not. I think I've seen fewer than a half dozen like this in all my time.

Now...1972 and 1973 are full of weak mottos and partially missing mottos. I have a 1972 in AU that has the TRUST completely gone, just like this coin. The cause was weak hubbing.

There are a number also in the early to mid 1950s that have very mushy and partially illegible mottos. Those are primarily die wear, but I have seen some that are so extreme the letters are just about gone.

Add to that the years that very typically have the last digit in the date partially or completely oblitarated due to die wear (1929, 1946, 1948, 1953, 1954, 1955), and we have a long line of partially missing details on Lincoln cents.

And then there's the typical counting machine obliteration of the last digit of the date on a number of pieces, seems the dates ending in 1 are especially affected because the digit is so straight and small, and easy to scrape off. 1941 seems to be the most affected date.

Okay, I will stop rambling now.
