Are there any good guidelines for grading 8 Reales? I'm looking at "LIBERTAD" on the cap, the breast feathers on the eagle, and the faces of the snake and the eagle, dings around the rims/edges. I have my guesses on what these grade at but I want some unbiased opinions. Thanks.
That 96 is loaded with die cracks and the 42 has a bit of verdigris on the cap.

Another question. I've noticed that in the 96 coin the details are crisper and not just because it's newer. The legend saying "REPUBLICA MEXICANA". So my question is: during what year/s did the quality of 8 Reales coins get better?

Larger, individual photos are needed to make any accurate grading assessments. That said, the one on the right appears to be the best, likely at least AU. The other two look to be around F to VF, but again, it's really hard to tell for sure from these pics.

The problem here is that we're capped at 100kb per image, otherwise I have some great pictures at 2-3MB each. Let me try again in a bit.

100kb is good enough, they just need to be of one coin, not a strip of three.

My opinion, for what it's worth:

!842 Zs - cap pretty worn but well defined rays, traces of the snake's body across the eagle's breast. Maybe just sneaks in at VF20.

1861 Zs - eagle's head lacking all detail, body quite smooth, cap legend illegible, but rays inexplicably again very nice and minimally worn legend. I'll go VG8, but if somebody else thought it was F12, well, there's certainly an argument that could be made for that.

1896 Zs - a couple of prominent flat spots on the eagle's lower body, but AU50 not out of the question since it's so crisp otherwise.
