I just got a nice SLQ today and started wondering.. are quarter rolls worth searching? I've read that it does not yield nearly as much silver as halves, I'm wondering how often you find nice, old quarters in the rolls and if they are worth searching? Also, are dimes worth searching too? I know they're small, and hard to hunt and tough on the eyes, how often do you find silvers or mercs? Thanks for reading and let me know your opinions! :D

Quarters - 1/$700
Dimes - 1/$150
Those are my averages over six years. Yours may vary.
I've found a half-dozen Barbers, dozens of mercs, and 150+ silver Canadian.

I'm in Canada but I thought I'd offer my opinion anyway. Up here, from my experiences, there are Quarters out there, but they are scarce, and the amount of skunks is high. That being said I have had finds. You could do it, but you'd be going through a lot of boxes and likely not be getting a high return. But then again, you could get lucky! Dimes on the other hand are still out there and there are lots to be had. I've found Mercury dimes and Roosevelts. Not many, but they're out there. I've found lots of Canadian Dimes and consider it well worth my efforts. I live close to the Washington State border and am considering going down and seeing if I can find a bank that will sell me a box of Dimes or Nickels. Just stay consistent and keep the volume high and you should do well!

I do lots of trading by mail for modern world coins. Canadian quarters are invaluable for this - everybody loves them. So I go searching just for commemoratives.

I would suggest getting dimes or halves.

IMO, quarters aren't worth it unless you're seeking a State Quarter, Territory Quarter, or ATB set. Silver is slim to none anymore. Dimes have better odds for silver. Quarters are probably last in silver output among searchers here on the forums.

I started Quarter CRH about two months ago to help my kids build their clad quarter sets. The first roll I went through, I got a 1959-D quarter. Since then I've gone through about 2000 quarters. That 59-D is the only silver quarter I've found. Most of the quarters I get are State Quarters, 1980s and 1990s Washington quarters and about 60 ATB Quarters. I've also pulled out about 6 US Territory quarters.

It's all about volume. Search thousands in quarters and you will find silver, I estimate search $20K find 10+ silver quarters.

its just luck and where you live. I know there are some people on here who find them frequently, but I have only found 1 out of hundreds of rolls searched

I would go for nickels
90% of 2.5 grams (dime) 90% of 6.3 grams (quarter) 35% of 5 grams (nickel)
the nickel gives the most return compared to face value and they seem to turn up 1 to every other box.

Nickels are really the only coin that hasn't been searched out for one reason or another. Of course dimes/quarters/halves searched due to silver removed. Pennies for wheat and copper. So nickels can be the score! Good luck to all. I have found a few nickels over the years.

I do mainly halves, nickels, and dimes. I do 2 boxes of halves a week and usually a box of dimes and a box of nickels. Halves and nickels are by far my favorite. There always seems to be SOMETHING cool in a box of nickels. I found tons of errors, delaminations, ect in nickels. I find a War Nickel every 1-2 boxes. The only problem with nickels is they are dirty as can be! Dimes are dreadfully boring but I can search them fast and find a silver about every box.

Halves and quarters seriously dead. Nickels, blah. Dimes - wow the variety! I've found 1,000 + silver dimes including Barbers, mercs, silver and clad proofs, and hundreds of silver Canadians. Dimes, my all time favorite, they never let me down.
