Since few months I note a strong raising of prices paid by buyers on ebay. Few months ago I could pay $50-$60 for silver coin with mintage 500 or 1,000 and now it is IMPOSSIBLE ! I saw buyers pay $100 and even $200 for same coin now ! Especially for coin of east of Europe or Asia(Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan,Belarus, etc..). There are new rich people who are ready to pay a fortune for a coin, unfortunately for me A good example : http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...320134256528Krause catalog value for this coin is $50 !! I know that Krause it is not always the right value but at this point !

The coin has a rather conspicuous fingerprint and some smudging on it too. I couldn't imagine dropping that kind of money on a less-than-perfect modern proof.
I was reading an article recently that said Eastern European citizens were starting to have more discretionary income and have started collecting their countries coins. This is causing a shortage of these coins in countries outside of the region. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Hi Spica. There was an interesting article in August's World Coin News about how the decline of the dollar and the rise of a middle class of coin collectors from Eastern Europe has caused prices of better world coins to increase and has even reduced the availability of these coins in the U.S. It said: "the new middle class of coin collectors in Eastern Europe is willing to pay more for coins struck in those countries than are collectors in the United States."
To paraphrase the article, it said that since the dollar is weak in relation to the Euro and Pound, buyers from overseas have an advantage. And a new collector base in Russia, Poland (as well as in Belgium and Netherlands) is creating competition for these better world coins. The article cited one buyer from Russia who paid 400 percent over the catalogue price but told the seller that even that price was much lower than the market price in Russia. To these overseas buyers, coins priced in dollars look like a bargain.

chasinva, I understand more now. I also think that the expension of Internet in these countries brings more potential buyers.

There is NO doubt the internet is increasing world coin awareness. Here in the U.S. that is probably the fastest growing segment of the coin collecting industry. Many dealers here, who would NOT consider foreign coins, are now actively seeking them to feed a new market of coin collectors. I, myself, have created a network of friends all over Europe to trade coins with and have noticed the ever increasing Euro compared to the dollar but still insist on making my purchases through this network of collectors rather than pay premiums to a U.S. dealer even if he/she can get the coins I desire. The world of the Darkside is growing rapidly!
I might add that I used to buy directly from the French Mint but they chose to eliminate their English order form in favor of a U.S. distributor so I no longer have that method of obtaining French coins and, as I said, do NOT pay U.S. dealers a premium for something I can get from a friend across the big pond.

gxseries, YES I saw that, incredible ! I have coins more rarer than this one, I ask me if I will sell them. But buyers should be found enough rich to pay such a price .

This is one silver coin that I have that is minted in Japan: When it was first out, appearently it was on sale for around 6000 yen which is about 55USD ish. Now it averages around 75,000 yen which is close to 630USD which I still think is mad as I bought it at just 25USD! Examples on Yahoo Japan: http://search5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp...t=2084036940

I have seen a coin I bid on go for less than $25 USD a couple months ago to more than $75 a week ago.
I have noticed, however, there seems to be a cycle for every coin and the same types pop up every 4-8 weeks - so there doesn't seem to be a lack of sellers coming to the market either.

I'm not a great silver coin ebayer, but if I have to buy something I always try to do it mid week and quite late at night (add some patience on top!)
