Test it with a magnet,if it sticks it' gold plated. Otherwise whatever opinions are offered there will still be doubt.

Quote: Do the Royal Canadian could have made a special edition ? No, absolutely no. No gold plated dollars were minted in 1968. most likely plated.

Gold plating does not have that color----or that sort of variation in hue. This may be a case of AT---check with water on a Q-tip---plating will resist removal.

I say No as well,.., A few years ago a Manitoba Man was electroplating coin.tokens, and what have You--I think I purchased a Zodiak/Horoscope symbol from him.,But it didn't look like Your 1968... Kind of like what Autobody shop does to a car bumper... .

i kind of agree with persistnt, it does look like what autobody shops do. I don't think it's plated.

UMM gold is non-magnetic, so using a magnet will not tell you its gold

If it is only gold plated it will still stick to a magnet, because nickel (what the coin is made of) is magnetic. One plating layer is too thin to block the magnetism. If it is solid gold it will not be magnetic at all.
If it is plated it will be heavier. If it's toning it will not (or at least not barely enough to be measurable)

Stuck to a magnet therefore it's plated. The extra weight of the plating likely won't take the total weight above mint tolerances. Take it to a post office or postal outlet and see if they'll weigh it.

Not similar at all! The '68 dollar sticks to a magnet, it is plated nickel, not toned. The '67 50¢ is silver, it is toned, perhaps with a helping hand, but toned nonetheless.

I have a 1982 PL Canadian nickel that many years ago I put in my Whitman deluxe album. It has toned a gorgeous light gold, obverse and reverse, but no other nicked in that album has been affected.
