I am thinking about expanding our roll searching beyond nickels. My son does some side roll searching on his own in other denominations and says quarters are least productive.
Besides nickels, what denomination do you find most productive?

Dimes or halves. Halves worth more on coin by coin basis. However it's easy to find dimes

Dimes would be the first most productive in my opinion, but I'm in Canada. I've always thought dimes were best because they're so much smaller than quarters.

If your looking for silver, than dimes would be the most productive, and then halves. Pennies are good if you want to hoard copper, and I usually find anywhere from 20-30 wheat cents per every $50.00.

I've done 10 rolls of quarters per week for the last two months, mostly to help my kids complete their 1965 to present quarter sets. I did find a 1959-D quarter! Its been productive, but only for helping them complete their sets.
I'm working on dimes now to help my son complete his 1965 to present dime set. If I could only do one, I would do dimes. I've had more luck finding silver dimes than I have silver quarters.
I've done halves in the past, and they were very productive, but that's been 20 years ago.

Halves are hit or miss, Dimes are more consistent. I do pennies most of the time because you are never disappointed.

Pennies: Pros:Very cheap, available, high find rates. Cons: No silver, finds are typically low value.
Dimes: Pros: High silver find rates. Cons: Somewhat expensive.
Quarters: Pros: Uhhh... Cons: Expensive, abysmal find rates.
Halves: Pros: Good silver rate, potential for big scores. Cons: Very expensive, long skunk streaks.

wheatchaser,
Thank you for your summary. Sounds like quarters are the pits.

Dimes a are too small. I have only found 2 silvers out of 5 boxes. Quarters are almost always a bust. Halves at least you have 2 types of silvers you could find, a few DDO years, a few no FG years, a lot more proofs cashed in, NIFC, and so on. Also more old people held on to halves so when they pass on and their kids clean out the dresser drawer and cash them in at the coin counter you are more likely to find a classic design since halves were the last to be changed in 1964 (vs 1909 or 1932 or 1938 or 1946) Also cents, nickel, dimes, and quarters actually circulate so they go through more peoples hands day to day than halves do so more people have the chance to pick the silver before it gets to you.

Quote: do you find most productive i couldnt help you here because we probably look for different things. what do you consider productive? i like wheats and 11 per box is enough as often as I search to keep me doing them. people find WAMs, but I couldnt see them if I tried. dines are a pain to read and fewer silver there than nickels to my accounts of searching. halves.jack jeckle and arby seem to get all the good boxes of those so I took a break from them. large dollars. if you can find them get them, ic ant find them anywhere! small dollars, a few NIFC here or there and the ever elusive 1981 SBA might be in it. i default to my favorite coin which is cents, then halves if I can. just was able to do small dollars this month because of ease of use so found about 20 keepers in a box of 10000. percentage wise that is pretty good and easy to spend back into circulation.

Pennies are the most productive, but you're going to have a hard time selling them anywhere. Maybe 20 wheats per $25. I'm in Canada and I usually get 100 wheats per $25. Don't know why, most are 1909 or teens. Occasionally I get a box that's loaded with mint rolls and wheat rolls. I would say for you, halves, then dimes, then pennies are the way to go.
