I just picked this one up, and I think that it is a Type A bust with type 1 reverse (based upon the flower above the "one")
I do not see any dots above the "One" or above the flower beneath "Rupee."

So am I correct in IDing this as a Type A/ Type 1 1862 Rupee actually minted in 1862? Which mint would this be? How does one determine a difference between Bombay, Calcutta, and Madras?
Thanks.

I just sold off a Bombay on ebay. Definitely not Bombay. Doesn't have the mark. I'm not too sure but I'd make an educated guess at Calcutta. Your Type rendering seems about right but there are so many darned varieties for the 1862 that it's hard to tell. Atleast yours was minted in 1862, I didn't even that to identify the date on mine since it wasn't actually minted in 1862.

Glad to see a fellow Indian Rupee Collector

zxcccxz- Thanks for the help! Would you be able to post a pic of the coin you sold on ebay (or even give a link to the auction), so that I can see the difference?

But, with 1862 Rupees the single dot above the bottom of the wreath/ beneath the date was not indicative of mint mark. Yes, the dot meant Bombay on later issues (not dated 1862), but I'm fairly certain that the dots indicated the year of production ( each dot indicating a year after 1862- so one dot equally 1863 & four dots equaled 1866).

Apparently there are 51 varieties of this coin.

This site should be useful
