Where is the best place to get world coin values from? Also are there any magazines that specialize in world coin collecting? Edited by ClearwaterCoins 08/07/2007 10:14 pm

www.numismaster.com if you want the online or electronic version. GO - the books are separated by centuries, not decades. You even just bought a couple of them!

If it wasn't for you, my under conceited and way below par ego would get the best of me sometimes with the possibility of me being conceivably incorrect, however, highly unlikely.

ClearwaterCoins, Keep in mind that while the Krause catalogues are excellent as regards the values of US coins, they are sometimes woefully inaccurate regarding other country's coin values. Some Australian coins for example: 2002 Queen Elizabeth II 50c - Krause value $4.00 - Real value $275.00 1999 Millennium 'The Past' $10 - Krause value $40.00 - Real value $875.00 2000 Victoria Cross 'Valour' $1 - Krause value $4.50 - Real value $225.00 The Krause catalogues are, however, excellent for the identification of coins. They are also terrific for learning about the composition, size, and weight of coins.

Maybe the 2000 VC should be worth $4.50! It's just as common as most other mintmark coins. What an over rated piece of copper. Scarce Australian half sovereigns with 1/10 the survival rates are worth less and they are gold! It don't make sense.

I'm not familiar with the US magazine scene, but I assume "World Coin News" does. Are there any others?

I watch them in ebay as I am continually outbid! I also regularly price them in local dealer's stores. I get a rough estimate from the Pocket Guide to Australian Coins & Banknotes by Greg McDonald. Although, the McDonald's hand-book can sometimes be a little generous with its price estimates.

Snooba, I bought the coin of your avatar (gold plated 50 cents 2006 royal visit) last week. I hope to receive it shortly. :))

I also use the Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause. In fact, that is the only book or coin catalog that I use regularly.
The one I own is from 2004 (31st ed) but not many coins 2001 to 2004 are listed. Does anybody knows how often these catalogs are updated?

SGoico - the 1900-present catalogs are done yearly, if I remember correctly. I have the 32nd edition myself. It has been split up into a 1900-2000 and a 2001-present in the latest printing. If you just need a listing of up-to-date coins, and aren't concerned about pricing (as previous examples show - it can be way off), then just browse the website at https://www.numismaster.com . You will need to register first, but it is free to do that.

Clearwater coins the Krause catalogs are excellent reference material and each covers 100 years of world coinage. I have found out that most Europeans stick pretty firmly to 50% to 60% of Krasue when buying or selling but, as Snooba stated, much care must be taken on those coins that have huge demands as Krause will be off a mile! Numismatic News also has a sister magazine called World Coin News, if I remember correctly, and CoinWorld is currently releasing its first editions of its new World Coins but I have not heard the official title. You probably can find it on the Coin World web site and, if I was a bettin' type guy it will probably be a huge success.
