Nothing overly special here. Was thinking about how I originally started collecting, and the abundance of wheats in circulation in the mid to late 70's. I wonder how many folks started looking at coins because of the Wheat penny?
These are a few that were acquired in the 70's, that I recently removed from 2x2 cardboard holders and put in to air-tites. If anyone wants to chime in on a grade, please feel free. I'm still learning. 1938, 1939D, and 1936. Again, not much value, just love how they've stood the test of time.

Some beautiful red cartwheel luster there! Did you pull those from circulation in the 70's or buy them? Bet they were pretty cheap if you bought them; they'd go for $10-15 bucks or more today in my opinion depending on exact grade. Nice!

Thanks Ken. No, my dad bought them (best guess I was 5th/6th grade). I have 4 or 5 duplicates of the same dates, and on the cardboard holder it just said "BU". Of course there seemed to be a fair amount of activity in those days, so not really sure if these are BU or AU. Probably some local Georgia coin dealer trying to the best he could, before the modern grading system. Anyway, glad you like them. Me too.

WOW! for starters.

Well you have to give kudos for the 2x2's for keeping them so beautiful over the years. They wouldn't look as good as they do if they had been in a 'change jar'.

Jimos - the LWC pulled me into collecting. My brother and I would ride with our folks every Saturday morning; they would go to breakfast and my brother and I would head to the bank. We'd get $50 bags or rolls and pour them onto the floor in the back of the '77 LTD. We'd snag every LWC and any old BU LMCs. I broadened my interest to other denominations once I picked up a paper route or two. Found many interesting pieces.

Terrific LWCs you have there! My brother and I found many BU coins back in the mid 70s. Occasionally, I'll find nice 50s LWCs, but nothing before that. One member showed a 1927 LWC not too long ago, so there are a few floating around.

And those really, really look nice.
Might be your photo but the 39 looks like it is U for the Mint Mark.

Thanks for all the positive feedback gents. I checked that 39D Carl, and it's definitely, a D.
My dad picked up a few each of the same date, and they all seem to have retained that nice red luster. Under a 4x magnifier (and certainly with an10x loupe) they all exhibit some very small, but visible black dots. I just turned 50, and I've got dots too, so there ya go.
I started this thread just reminiscing how a youngster, with very little spending cash, could start a coin collecting hobby off the LWC. I even have the original book I started (check out the last printed date in the album -1969. The rest of the dates we had to write in).
Anyway, still enjoying it today, just as much as yesterday

Nice cents!

I also enjoy the look back into your past with the folder.
