Could make VF20 however it was cleaned and the rim ding is pretty prominent which would effect value. Also something is going on under the chin. Not liking that. Possibly PMD

Panzaldi, I get the details do to the rim ding. May I ask what signs of cleaning you are seeing? Yes there is some PMD under the chin but I think it is 158 year old damage. The toning of the coin is even over the PDM and throughout except on the high points of wear.

Two points that led me to a possible cleaning. First is the embedded dirt around many of the devices that is leading me to believe it was wiped with something to remove grime at some point in its pife. Second is the washed out color and blotchy surfaces. Could be lighting that's why I said possible. Without in hand its a tough call

Panzaldi, thanks for your answer:) I was looking at this thread on my iphone and the images do make this coin look blotchy and cleaned. On my pc this is not true. I think I need to reset my white balance.

The color is a bit too red for an original coin with this level of wear. I'd expect a medium to deep brown color if the coin had never been cleaned. Perhaps it looks more brown in hand?

I am guessing that it is more brown than what you are seeing. Different monitor screens are showing the coin differently and the pics could be better. I know the rim ding is a detractor but what had hoped to convey with the images is what a great (IMHO) original red/brown toning the coin had. A hope not achieved obviously. But, its all good!
I did not pay a fortune for the coin and I like it:)
