Item number 270152886500

He's selling what appear to be gold and silver pandas with an opening bid of 9.99 and $153 shipping. I looked at his completed listings and he had similar sets sell at opening bid. Assuming these coins are real, melt value alone would be around $2000.

His location is in China, and this auction is in English and in USD, but most of his auctions are in French and in euros.

It smells very fishy to me...

Several things about this auction scream "WARNING" to me.

1) He has been an ebay member (using this ID at least) since only 14th May 2007, yet look at his feedback:

http://www.toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/neg...=Received+by

Some comments from his feedback:

* Weak quality, long delivery time, outrageous shipping costs, I had to pay extras
* Said 10kt solid gold. It is overlay and fake. pretty but totally fake. BEWARE!!

2) His shipping costs are ludicrously high! And if you return the coins, you do not get refunded any of your shipping costs. So he could sell all of his coins and have them all returned by unhappy buyers, and he would still be making a huge profit simply on his shipping.

3) He is based in China. China is the Mecca of counterfeit coins. If you want to purchase counterfeits, then look to China.

4) He must be aware of the reputation that China has when it comes to copies and counterfeit coins, however he doesn't make any statements regarding the genuineness of his merchandise. He takes no time or effort to re-assure his customers that they are buying genuine articles. This begs the question, Why? If you were an honest seller, operating out of China, wouldn't you take pains to prove that you were legitimate?

These are just some of my thoughts and opinions regarding this item. I can't say for a certainty that they are real or fake. But I do advise extreme caution.

Oh, and I forgot the most important thing: If it looks too good to be true, then it usually is!
