Hello,
I have been going through an old family collection of coins and have come across a Bronze (assume it is bronze) Germantown medal. There is a small hole just off the middle at the top of the medal.
How do I go about getting this verified as real?

What a superb medallion, even if it is marred by a tiny hole.

I suggest you ask judd1552

Very nice piece!

Here's a link to some good info on it: http://www.stacksarchive.com/viewlo...=14&auclink=

If you can't find a local medal expert, I would suggest submitting the piece to NGC for grading and authentication. They have been doing so for tokens/medals/so-called dollars for a number of years and are reliable.

I see that you're in the UK, you might also want to contact these folks: http://www.lancashireinfantrymuseum...ctober-1777/

Good luck! Keep us apprised of what you learn!

I see that the Stack's specimen is engraved 40th Reg(imen)t whereas The South Lancashire Regiment medal isn't engraved.

Outstanding.
The battle site depicted is the Cliveden mansion in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia:

Thank you for the information you have supplied.
The hole in the medal is very small but looks like it was made intentionally.
I will try and get it looked at over the next week. My main worry is that it is a replica, although I cannot find anything online about replicas of this type of medal.

The originals were meant to be worn, and seem to be holed as often as not. Probably adds to to the likelihood of it being authentic.
