I ran into this thing a few weeks back. The coin has a thought planchet break from side to side. I have only seen 2 other Morgan dollars with a thought plancet break and as many of us have seen one of the broken coins is Nevada coins 100% broken coin.

Is it yours? It sure looks like the crack has seen some heat. Wire EDM is an interesting theory....

Its graded MS-62 and it is a Planchet break. The inside of this break is "Not" a straight line crack, or a wire cut. This type of break is caused when the metal from the unused silver from the 1st planchet cut is reprocessed. If there is contamination present where the 2 sides of the metal meet it will not hold. This is normally seen as Lamination. This is called a broken or fractured Planchet as it is thought the full thickness of the planchet. In reality its a thought planchet lamination I would think.

Sweet, I have a WL half dollar that has a similar split or broken planchet, I sold it for just under $600 and then bought it back again about a year and a half later from my buyer. I'll have to shoot some photos of it and make up a post on it, these kind of errors seem pretty rare to me, If you don't mind me asking (don't want to be rude) what value do you place on this coin?

Yes they are very rare! From what I have seen. As far as a value I think it's worth ONE DOLLAR .....well that's what the coin shows!

This coin looks to be a bit of an under grade,as its graded MS-62 and it has very good luster and the reverse has a bunch of "POP" to it that you seldom see on 1921 P Morgan dollars.
