I did a lot of reading and found the A620 had the ability to control remotely via a computer. The question is how do I get this to work? I have a T1i with the canon software installed and the remote shooting works great for it. It does not recognize the A620. I would like to use the A620 for larger shots like slabs.

You may need the software for the A620. You will need the original disk as the latest software available for download from the Canon website does not include the programming for remote.

The T1i's 18-55 kit lens does slabs just fine, as well. You can handhold a shot like that.

Any update? If the A620 can be controlled by tethering to PC, I may consider one for a full-slab setup. I am waiting patiently for you to confirm that it does indeed work, and to what extent...compared to your T1i?

Yes, the 620 does work tethered to a laptop with the original software. Here are a couple I took recently.

Is the software the same as is used for later cameras? If the camera is in Manual mode, can the software control aperture, ISO, shutter speed, focus, can it zoom-in to 100% pixel level, snap the pic and automatically download for viewing?

I'm not sure where the cut off is, but later Canon point and shoots do not have tether capabilities.

With this series the 620 is the cut off. I also have a 630 and it does not have the capabilities. I believe with the G series its the G9 or G10 that has it. The G12 I had did not have it. I received the correct software yesterday so I will be playing with it this week.

The software is refusing to work on Windows 7, I have the 32 bit version so I am working to get it going in XP compatibility mode. Might have to get an old laptop to run it.

You may also want to look at VMware player. It will run XP on your windows 7 machine. I use it at work for an old CAD seat that would cost major bucks for a new key.

That one is a tremendous camera, still going for nearly-new prices on ebay even though it dates from 2007. I will buy one when I can find one at the right price.
