Cool video! I contacted Stacks/Bowers a couple of weeks ago regarding ordering the hardbound catalogs, no answer yet, other than a canned response they got my email and will respond.

Even though it's unlikely I'll be bidding on any of these coins I am kind of giddy thinking about them and can't wait for this auction to take place. It's being split up over several years (May 2015 to May 2017, 7 sessions) but the first group comes up this May.

Take a look at this coin. I don't think you could have better toning on a coin if you got to decide exactly how and where the toning occurred. This coin just blows me away on all levels:

Getting closer to the auction now. I see Stack's/Bowers have released two new Q. David Bowers books on the D. Brent Pogue collection:

The "1822 Gold Half Eagle - Story of a Rarity" and "Treasures from the D. Brent Pogue Rare Coin Cabinet" from the upcoming sales. Both books are available to order now, and BONUS they have very high quality FREE digital online copies you can view at your leisure!

Thanks Stack's/Bowers!

See the following page link to access both books:

Don't think I've heard of the Pogues.

Do they do coppers? Large cents?

The provenance on some of those could take up a whole page to themselves. I can't even imaging what kind of money these will bring.

I purchased a copy of the 1822 gold book and enjoyed it immensely. I placed my order this morning for the other book

This collection is so far beyond me that I can't even really be interested in it. I am too excluded from it as a collector. That's just how I feel anyway.

Darth Morgan, I know what you mean as far as looking a these from a collector's point of view. I pretty much look at these coins like I would works of art. I look at them the way I might look at the Mona Lisa, or The Sistine Chapel. Only in this case it's something that I already have a strong passion for... coins.

Dallas based real estate investors (really wealthy real estate investors), the family has several companies around the country.

They have been putting the collection together for awhile, yes they do copper, not sure how long though, they do include some coins purchased at the Goldberg's Missouri Half Cent Cabinet sale last year. I don't think they were looking for complete date sets, more type collecting the very best along with ultra rarities as they came available (They have 2 1804 dollars, one is the finest known, both are Class 1, so not looking at variety collecting either).

Just ordered the books that westcoin linked to above, can't wait to get them. I saw some of the coins on display at the Portland ANA show and they are without a doubt the most beautiful coins I have ever seen.

"do they do Coppers?"

Not only do they do coppers, they have the only mint state 1799 large cent in existence...
